João Valadas Coriel, Managing Partner at VCA, will be speaking at the American Bar Association’s International Law Section Annual Conference, taking place in New York from 30 April to 3 May 2025.
This annual event brings together legal professionals from across the world to discuss key developments in international law and cross-border practice. The programme features panels on global tax, ethics, ESG, private client matters, arbitration, and regulatory challenges, among others — with speakers from law firms, institutions, and academia.
João will be one of the panelists on “Breaking Confidential: Protecting Attorney-Client Privilege Amid KYC and MDR Challenges,” scheduled for 1 May at the Penn Club (Tarnopol Room). The panel explores the tension between increasing transparency obligations and the need to preserve privileged client communications — particularly under Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements and Mandatory Disclosure Rules (MDR).
This session, part of the conference’s Ethics and Tax tracks, is co-sponsored by the Private Client Committee, of which João is Vice-Chair, and highlights a topic of growing importance for cross-border legal work and client confidentiality.
João’s participation reflects VCA’s continued involvement in international dialogue around regulatory change and private client advisory — key pillars of the firm’s practice.
