The Portuguese government launched, this past Saturday, 25th of January, a new feature on the immigrant regularization portal (formerly SAPA), allowing workers registered with Social Security before June 4, 2024, but who did not submit a Manifestation of Interest, to regularize their status.
This measure was primarily created to assist those affected by the abrupt closure of the Manifestation of Interest system on June 3, 2024.
Eligible to register are:
- Employees with a work contract who, before June 4, 2024, registered and made contributions to Social Security intending to complete at least 12 months of contributions.
- Self-employed workers or freelancers (recibos verdes). To qualify, they must prove at least 12 months of contributions, even if not consecutive, to Social Security.
- Those who already have an active Expression of Interest but have not yet been contacted by the Mission Structure responsible for the analysis.
The portal is now available and operates on the platform of the former SAPA.
This measure represents a significant step forward in the process of integration and regularization of immigrants in Portugal, providing legal stability to both employees with formal contracts and self-employed workers.
Eligible immigrants are encouraged to access the portal and begin their regularization process as soon as possible.
