In February of this year, the online platform for applying for Portuguese nationality was launched on the Justice Portal, available exclusively for lawyers and solicitors registered in their respective professional Bars in Portugal.
At that time, legal representatives could choose between submitting the nationality application either in person or online.
However, starting from December 1st, 2023, requests for Portuguese nationality made by lawyers or solicitors acting as proxies can only be submitted online.
This measure aims to decrease demand for in-person appointments and the volume of paper-based applications, thereby allowing an increase in response capacity and an enhancement in the efficiency of the provided service.
To access and use the platform, authentication with the professional order certificate and digital signature is necessary, ensuring validation of the professional quality of the proxy.
